Flower Season at Aquarius Luxury Suites

The Western Cape Flower Season is something to behold! The season runs from August to September and here at Aquarius Luxury Suites we are located near some of the best sites for all your flower needs. We recommend the following stops on your Flower Power Tour:

Darling (56,4 km)

Darling is perhaps the most famous centre for flower season in the Western Cape. The flora can be viewed from the roadside to reserves and parks. The Darling Wildflower Society was established in 1917 and has been sharing Darling’s botanical wonders with the world since, while promoting the conservation of wildflowers in the district. The Society offers guided wildflower reserve walks and Darling is a base for the surrounding parks, such as the Darling Groenkloof Reserve and Oudepost Nature Reserve. Be sure to visit the wine cellars in the area and Evita Se Perron while in Darling.

West Coast National Park (72,2 km)

The reserve we recommend is the lovely West Coast National Park, with official flower season stretching from 1 August to 30 September every year. The protected area of Postberg opens to the public, which, alongside the Seeberg/Mooimaak areas, offer fields of beautiful flowers. Some of the flowers to spot include the Elandsvy (small purple petals with yellow centre, grows in coastal sand), the Magriet flower (pale yellow petals with blue/black centre), and the Sporrie flower, which is the only blue flower in the park. Watch out for animals such as flamingos, elande, and even whales!

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden (23,8 km)

Kirstenbosch is not to be overlooked during flower season. The gardens offer the best of Caoe Town nature all year round. Guides offer specialised tours that change according to the season and offer the best opportunity to explore Kirstenbosch. Pack a picnic and don’t forget to walk the ‘Boomslang’ – the Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway!

Elgin Open Gardens (81,1 km)

The Elgin Open Gardens in Grabouw offers a different flower viewing event for a good cause. The Open Gardens event is only accessible for a mere two weekends per year and takes place a little later than the traditional flower season. The event takes place to benefit local charities. This is definitely worth the trip – take pictures frolicking in the flowers, shop at the vendor stalls, enjoy a drink and food at the beer gardens, and take pictures of the surrounding forests and apple orchards.

At Aquarius we love showing off our beautiful province, and the Western Cape cannot be more beautiful than during flower season. Our suites offer the perfect base for flower viewing, with a tranquil and classy home to return to at the end of the day. Feel free to ask our staff for recommendations for flower spots to visit and remember to tag us in all your adventures!
